Memories of Mayberry

Andy Griffith

Now here’s a story about our bravest and finest in one of those truly awesome “finest” moments. This story will warm your heart, and give you visions of Mayberry that would even make Andy Griffith proud.

While people in the Northern states are shaking their fist at the weather man when he tells them that more snow is coming, here in the South that rare snowstorm still brings a magical feeling to young and old alike. Noses press against the widows to watch for those first flakes to come down, and the excitement builds as the ground turns white.

Getting to play in the snow in the South takes quick action. That stuff melts fast around here! Fortunately, in the small town of China Grove, NC, the police took quick action to deal with this emergency, quickly closing Franklin St. between Patterson and Swink St. as well as Walnut St between 3rd St and 1st St. Anyone coming near these roads with a snow plow is likely to get a citation! You see, these roads are closed for sledding!

The China Grove Police Department has declared a state of emergency. It seems that the hill behind the police department, that is so popular for sledding, just isn’t enough to accommodate the 4,000 residents of that small town, so they have taken these extra measures to insure that everyone has room to enjoy this surprise winter festival. Anyone caught having too much fun will be sentenced to a trip to the police station where the doors will be open for everyone to come in and warm up with a hot cup of cocoa. Now that’s protecting and serving!

Hats off to these brave officers who are committed to not only protecting their community, but also being a part of it, and bringing the townspeople together for a wonderful day of fun. Not only have they brought joy to that wonderful little town, but they brought the rest of us some RealGoodNews!
